A fine portrait of a Gentleman called Evelyn

Wearing black doublet and white lawn collar with tassels
oil on copper, set in gilt-metal frame with pierced ribbon bow cresting, the reverse engraved Evelyn/ born 1620/ died 24, March/ 1699

Very little is known about Smiadecki, who was born in either Poland or Russia. He is thought to have been tutored by Alexander Cooper in Sweden and worked primarily in oils on copper or vellum.
This portrait appears to have been painted circa 1670 based on the style and shape of the lawn collar that the sitter is wearing.
