A fine portrait of a young Lady

Artist: Richard Cosway

With powdered hair, wearing white dress, fichu and bandeau , sky background
set in a rose coloured gold frame, the reverse with locks of plaited brown hair

Cosway was one of the leading portrait painters of the Regency period. He was appointed Painter to the Prince of Wales[ in 1785—the only time this title was ever awarded. His subjects included the Prince's first wife, Maria Anne Fitzherbert, and various English and French aristocrats, including Madame du Barry, mistress of King Louis XV of France.

This is a lively and expressive portrait taken at the height of his career circa 1785
