Artist: John Bogle

wearing fawn coloured coat, white waistcoat and frilled cravat.
Signed with monogram on the obverse and dated 1779, set in a 5 carat gold frame.

Bogle brings a Scot's vision into London miniature painting. He studied in a Glasgow school of drawing and practised as a miniaturist first in Edinburgh (1767-70) and then in London (1772-1794) where he exhibited at the R.A.
Examples of his work are in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the National Portrait Gallery of Scotland.
