A Noble Lady

wearing white dress trimmed with mauve sash, rope of pearls in her upswept brown hair
set in the original gold with plaited hair on the reverse

Patrick McMorland, sometimes spelled McMoreland, was born in Scotland in 1741, dying sometime after 1809. He worked in Scotland, Manchester, London, and Liverpool, painting, teaching, and lecturing. His work was of high calibre, and he exhibited at the Royal Academy.
The use of mauve colour in miniature portraits is quite scarce, making this an attractive portrait.
