A portrait miniature believed to be of Stamp Brooksbank (c.1784-1856)

Signed on the obverse with the cursive E, gold frame with blue glass reverse.

The sitter has traditionally been identified as Stamp Brooksbank by family repute. The only Brooksbank that appears in Engleheart's fee book is a Mr. J. Brooksbank, whose portrait was taken in 1800. It is possibly that the initial S could have been incorrectly transcribed to a J, by Dr Williamson, when he produced his book on George Engleheart (where the fee book is listed)Stamp was the eldest son of four sons and three daughters born to Benjamin Brooksbank, JP (1757-1842) of Healaugh Manor and his wife, Philippa (d.1849), daughter and co-heiress of Colonel James Clitherow (1731-1805).
