A superb miniature portrait of a Lady

Artist: Bernard Lens

A superb portrait of a fashionable lady wearing a décolleté green dress with gold embroidered frogged bodice and white lace underslip, an orange lined yellow cape on her upswept hair trimmed with lace
Signed with monogram on the obverse. Set in the original turned pearwood frame

This is a large miniature for the hand of Lens and shows a mature hand. The sitter is shown wearing an exquisite green dress with elaborate gold embroidery suggesting that she is a lady of considerable wealth.
Lens was the miniature painter at the courts of kings George I and George II, instructor in miniature painting (then called limning) to prince William and princesses Mary and Louise and consultant in fine arts to upper-class families.
