Eleanor Maclean Ross
Eleanor Maclean Ross (1860 - 1932)E;eanor's father, John Maclean Ross, was working as a photographic artist at the time of her birth. Although her birth name was simply Eleanor Ross, she later adopted 'M' for Maclean ' after her christian name. In the early part of her career she divided her time between North Berwick and Edinburgh, with both addresses appearing on her trade card. She exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1880-1919.rrrAmongst others, Ross painted portraits of Edith Cavell (celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers from both sides without discrimination and in helping some 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium) and Princess Alexandra.
