Surgeon Wilkins served in the Peninsula in 1814, and later in the Kandian campaign in Ceylon 1817 - 1818. Also at the Siege of Kolapore in 1827 and through the campaign of 1842 in Afghanistan.
The depiction of palm trees indicates that this profile was taken when the surgeon was in India.
