A portrait miniature of Eliza Pilgrim
REF
2736
In gilt-metal frame with seed pearl border, Glazed reverse.
Wright painted miniatures of both Elizabeth Pilgrim and her sister-in-law Annie Ellcock, the latter was signed on the reverse.
Originally when the two miniatures first appeared on the open market they were described as Ann Pilgrim and Eliza Elcock. Research into the Ellcock (Elcock) and Pilgrim family genealogy has shown that the names have been muddled and in fact the sitters are Eliza Pilgrim and her sister in law Anne Ellock - who married John Frere Pilgrim
Wright is considered a good artist who painted forceful miniatures as this portrait demonstrates
