wearing a white dress with frilled collar, a white bandeau entwined in her long curling hair
signed with monogram MF on the obverse set in the original frame, the reverse with oval aperture to reveal plaited hair within gold mount and blue glass border, old label erroneously inscribed "portrait by Maria Flaxman unknown sitter".

Finucane was born in Ennis, Co Clare. He killed a man in a dual in Ireland and to avoid arrest joined an Irish Regiment and went to the Channel Islands, a friend of his Father saw him in a sentry box, and bought him out of the army. He made a name for himself painting miniatures of army and local important figures, starting a drawing school in St. Peters Port. He married in 1802 a Mary Astie, from Plymouth, they had four children.
