Andrews, an Irishman, moved to Madras in 1791, in 1795 he moved into the house that John Smart occupied where he advertised that he would attend to all orders for miniatures. By 1798 he moved to Calcutta. His work has been confused with that of John Smart whose style he imitated and with Sarah Addington whose initials he shared. He died in Patna 1807.
