An unknown Lady

She wears a fur trimmed lilac coat over a white dress with frilled lace, her white plumed hat secured with a ribbon under her chin.
Signed on the obverse, set in the original ormolu rectangular frame with leaf motif on the border

Aubry, a French artist, was a pupil of Isabey. He was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon between 1798 and 1833. The first director of the Louvre, Vivant Denon, described him as one of the most able miniature painters in Europe. He was a restorer at the Louvre from 1833 to 1848.

Although it has not been possible to identify the sitter, judging by her clothes she was clearly a notable lady of fashion.
