John Wigston (1763-1810)

set in a gold frame with plaited hair reverse
John was the second of three children born to James Wigston and his wife, Elizabeth ( nee Weare) of London. He married Mary in 1789 and had 5 children before 1805, all christened at St. Andrews in Enfield.
Their eldest son, Richard Henry, married Mary Amelia Chaplin, the daughter of Acton Chaplin and Anne Sherriff on the 28th November 1822 at St. Mary's church in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Richard fought in the battle of Waterloo on the 18th June 1815, in the 2nd Battalion with the 3rd Regiment of Foot Guards and was awarded the Waterloo medal.
In addition to a home in Trent Park, Enfield, John owned Millfield House which he let to the Imperial Ambassador of the German Empire in 1796. John's will indicated a possible blot on his reputation, when he refers to his family thus, 'To Anne Brown, my reputed natural daughter by Anne Browne who formerly lived with my late Father, the sum of £100.
