Lady Middleton

Artist: James Nixon

Wearing Oriental influenced costume with gold trimmed white turban.
Signed with initial on the obverse, set in the original gold bracelet claps frame with split pearl border

Nixon was much influenced by the work of Sir Joshua Reynolds. He was a leading miniaturist of his time, and held the appointments of limner to the Prince of Wales and miniature-painter to the Duchess of York; in 1778 he was elected Associate of the Royal Academy. He resided in London for most of his professional career, but spent periods in Edinburgh and Newcastle.

Another version of this portrait by Nixon was presented to the Kenwood Collection by the late Robert Bayne-Powell in 1993.
