Mid 18th century portrait miniature of a noble lady wearing a blue dress with bows and ermine stole, pearl earrings, painted in watercolour on ivory

Artist: Charles Dixon

Signed with initials, the reverse with seed pearl monogram SJG on plaited hair, in the original gold frame

Although it has not been possible to identify the sitter, the sumptuous silk dress, lace bodice and ermine stole coupled with the pearl choker, large drop pearl earrings and delicate posy of flowers in her hair suggest that she is a noble lady of considerable fortune.
