set in a gilt-metal locket with silk reverse

Dixon was one of Britain's most successful female 19th century miniature painters. She moved around spending time in Horncastle, Hull, Lincolonshire and the Isle of Wight. She was instructed by Mrs. Dalton, the sister of William Charles Ross - whose works this portrait resembles. She exhibited an astounding 222 miniatures at the R.A.In her early career her sitter's were not titled but she rose up the ranks and painted many miniatures for the Royal family
